Description The nesting box for the barn owl provides an ideal nesting environment. Barn owls naturally breed in cavities in old pollard willows and fruit trees. The rough wood of the nesting box mimics this situation as closely as possible for the barn owl. A built-in vestibule offers a sheltered balcony where barn owls like to sit on the lookout. The partition with the sluice ensures that the box is not accessible to crows, stock doves, and martens, and that it is dark enough inside for the young. INSTALLATION Preferably in knot willows, fruit trees or oaks. Hang at 2.5 to 5 meters height, slightly tilted so that the eggs do not roll forward and precipitation flows away quickly. Preferably with the opening to the southeast or to the most accessible flight side. Add a bottom layer of 5 cm sawdust, wood chips or cat litter. A too high temperature can be fatal for the young, so direct sunlight on the box is best avoided. The exit of the box should be close to a branch so that young can run out. In addition to trees, the nesting box is also suitable for hanging on buildings under the gutter or in old barns. MAINTENANCE To facilitate cleaning, the nest box from Ecovery has a hinged top.
